John Weisgerber - Resident Services Manager
John Weisgerber grew up in Colorado and Utah. He moved to Albuquerque in 1988 as a member of the United States Air Force and as a graduate of the Defense Information School (DINFOS). In various roles, he helped promote the mission of the Air Force, and the people of Kirtland AFB, to the general public as well as to the news media. He also assisted with a variety of presidential and vice-presidential visits to Albuquerque. John left the Air Force in 1994 and decided to make Albuquerque his home. He obtained an associate degree from Central New Mexico Community College (CNM – formerly known as TVI) and a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico (UNM).
In the years following graduation from UNM, John seemed to find himself helping one cause after another. With AAA New Mexico Public and Government Affairs, he helped promote traffic safety, anti-DWI efforts, and child booster seat laws. Later, with the American Cancer Society, he helped promote cancer awareness with events such as Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer which helped raise money for cancer research. He was also involved with some unique sport promotion opportunities such as working with the ESPN production crew on several Lobo Football games and the first New Mexico Bowl. He also worked as a member on the 2008 USBC Open Championship communication team.
In 2011, John was volunteering at Joy Junction when he was approached by Joy Junction’s Founder, Jeremy Reynalds. Jeremy asked John if he was interested in a position at Joy Junction. John admitted to him that it was very different than his previous work, but he would consider it. He eventually accepted a full-time position at the shelter in December of 2011 as a Resident Services Supervisor. The position allowed him to assist those who made their temporary home at the shelter. Later, in February of 2013, John accepted the position as the Front Office Manager and Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer. Then, after years of working with the residents and staff members, gaining valuable experience, he was selected as the Resident Services Manager in February of 2024.
John is married and has two children. During his time away from the office, he enjoys long walks with his dog in the Bosque (or elsewhere) and spending time with his family. He enjoys attending a wide variety of local events and loves trying new food options. When it comes to chili, he likes his hot, and enjoys the “Christmas” option of red and green.
