New Day Shelter Program

When the weather is extreme, cold or hot, it can be dangerous or even deadly for the homeless.

For those who would like to get out of the weather for the day, they can call Joy Junction seven days a week at 800-924-0569 between 8:00 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. from Downtown Albuquerque, and request to be picked up at about 8:45 a.m. They will be able to spend the day at Joy Junction.

Individuals who wish to use the day shelter program will be offered both lunch and dinner, as well as access to Joy Junction’s case management and chaplaincy services.

At about 6 p.m., after dinner, they will be offered a ride back to Downtown. If they request overnight shelter, they will be first in line for a bed to stay that night.

The cold and ever increasingly dangerous streets of Downtown Albuquerque are no place to sleep for the homeless. We know there’s a need for those on the street to have a place to go and feel safe, and we have the space, so we are happy to have them join us.

The program will be refined and adapted to those using it as the need is more fully identified.

Those using the program will be subject to the same background check as individuals accessing nighttime services at the shelter.
