Dallas Savinov has been looking for a place to belong all her life. Growing up in Canada was lonely Her father was a quiet man who said nothing. Her mother was cruel.
Dallas knew the hurt of going to bed hungry and frequent beatings and worse. "She took great pleasure in telling me that I was not a part of her family and wishing I had never been born."
"I so desperately wanted to belong. I still had doubts who my real family was as an adult and went so far as calling the hospital where I was born, as well as vital records, but I could never find out (the truth). It would have been nice to know one way or the other, but I probably never will."
The Road Down
With her emotional life spiraling out of control, Dallas quit school in the ninth grade. She took a live-in job on an army base and then work with a carnival "drinking and partying."
The "great old time" didn't last long. It wasn’t too long before Dallas got pregnant.
She said, "My baby's father didn't want anything to do with me or my baby. I left again and moved west, had two more kids and continued to move around every four to five months. Another child came and eventually, Tom.
"We had a lot in common," Dallas said. Tom was nice, but he did have an alcohol problem. They married, none the less, and traveled together looking for a place for themselves and the four children
Joy Junction
The journey to peace is often not a quick or easy one. You can read the story on our web site at JoyJuntion.org, along with stories of others who have found love from God.
But for now, suffice it to say, Tom now works in a trusted position at Joy Junction. Dallas says “We are now at the place we had been searching out for all of our lives."
She says that place is within them. "It is a place that God has helped us find, and we have found this place through Joy Junction. It's home. We now feel like we belong, and are accepted for who we are and for who we are not.”
She said, "If you're searching for something, anything - a sense of belonging like I was, an escape from the past - God is there. He is all forgiving. He protected us when we were out in the cold - either in reality or figuratively. He loves us. It is an amazing feeling - the feeling of belonging, the feeling of peace in your heart. We know that no matter what happens we will be safe and loved, because God will always be there and He will give us the ability to help ourselves. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, but I know everything will be okay. I thank God every day for giving us Joy Junction. I thank Joy Junction every day for giving us God."
