Gene Shiplet serves as the chaplain to Joy Junction residents and staff. Known affectionately as “Happy Chappy,” his warmth and genuine ear to ear smile serve as a day to day necessity for those who are in crisis, or trying to make meaningful life change. He is a consistent and godly ambassador of our Lord and Savior, showing Jesus to all he meets.
A licensed preacher by Eastern Hills Baptist Church since 2003, Gene has served in jails, prisons, and juvenile detention centers in New Mexico, Colorado, and West Texas. He graduated from Tucumcari High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.
“Happy Chappy” was trained for corporate chaplaincy by Marketplace Ministries, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Since becoming a chaplain, he has completed traumatic stress and emergency services training for pastors. He has also completed pastoral crisis intervention through UMBC, an honors university headquartered in Maryland. Gene is an invaluable part of the Joy Junction team!
