A Wedding of Joy at Joy Junction

Barry wouldn’t deny that he lost his apartment because of a number of bad choices he made, which caused him to end up staying in an Albuquerque-area temporary homeless shelter.

But God works everything together for good, and it was while staying at the mission that he met Diane, who was staying in the woman’s area of the facility.

By e-mail, Barry told me that the two of them talked non-stop for about two hours, and as they realized it was time to leave, he did so very reluctantly.

They made plans to meet again soon at the downtown library, but as they separated that night, Barry said he couldn’t stop thinking about Diane.

The upcoming meeting couldn’t come fast enough for Barry. He said, “Diane walked up behind me while I was waiting for her, and put her hands over my eyes. I said, ‘I know just...

Joy Junction Homeless Shelter Helps Family of Eleven Evicted from Home

“It was very hard when we were camping out in the neighbor’s yard; we had to ask permission to use the restroom or to take a shower. It is very difficult to be out in the streets with nine children. It was so hot my baby got fussy, and had diarrhea and vomiting for a few days. My other children just sat in the backyard all sad, especially with the weather so hot.”

When Gladiola Valdez came home one day from what should have been a routine visit to the grocery store, she found unexpected visitors waiting outside her front door - the police.

They told her that the apartment units in which she lived had been closed a number of times before due to city code violations, and were being rented illegally....

The Jesus Knot Board - Using Knots to Praise the Lord

Bill King combined his faith in Jesus and his knowledge of the scriptures with the knot-tying skills that he obtained during his years as a petty officer in the United States Coast Guard.

The result was the Jesus Knot Board, a unique tribute to the Lord Jesus Christ and His followers.

According to his web site, when Bill originally started making the Jesus Knot Boards, they were only for his family and friends - to remind them who Jesus is, what He did and means to us. Bill said he wanted to make sure the message he was spreading was accurate, so he decided to show the boards to well known ministers who he knew and loved Jesus and understood the Bible.

Writing on his web...

Jesus for President - He Guarantees a Changed Life for the Homeless

Unless you opt to live in a cave, you’ll hear more and more coverage of the upcoming presidential election as the next few weeks unfold.

All the endless chatter boils down to this; both presidential candidates making endless promises saying they have the answers to the woes being faced by our nation.

It’s not surprising that with many Americans scarcely able to survive from one mortgage or rental payment to the next, polls say the economy is the issue uppermost on voters minds. I’m guessing that whichever candidate manages to make the most overall appealing pitch to the electorate’s shrinking pocketbook will probably be the one who ends up in the White House.

If that sounds a tad cynical, it is. However, I’m not...

A Father’s Arrest and a Mother’s Dilemma

Crystal Scott and her daughter Ashley have experienced a lot of unexpected trauma in the last few months.

“We had a normal life in most ways until October of last year,” Crystal said. “Ashley's father was arrested on charges I knew absolutely nothing about.”

Crystal said it was very hard for her and her daughter to find any piece of mind until they settled in at Joy Junction, New Mexico’s largest emergency homeless shelter. When the arrest happened, Crystal said she was “lost.”

Crystal added, “I really didn't know which way to turn. Being almost 30 years old, I was willing to do almost anything to not have to turn to my mother. So after considering my options, we...
