ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS) -- Albuquerque resident Dr. Jeremy Reynalds is best known as the founder and CEO of
Joy Junction, New Mexico’s largest emergency homeless shelter.
What is not so well known is that after emigrating to the United States he
became homeless through unfortunate circumstances, got back on his feet with the help of the Lord and while
running Joy Junction earned an undergraduate degree, a master’s in communication and a doctorate in
intercultural education.
Reynalds’ story is told in "Homeless in the City: A Call to Service" (Theatron Books, 2007).
Now in his newest book, "The Face of Homelessness" (Theatron Books, March 20 2008), Reynalds captures the heart
of the Lord in the real life stories of people who just like Reynalds were desperate but found hope in Jesus Christ.
The book has received enthusiastic praise. Wayne Barber, Senior Pastor of Albuquerque’s Hoffmantown Church said,
"Reynalds helps us see that when we step out of our comfort zones and allow Christ to live through us we see
through His eyes the hopelessness that is all around us! This book is compelling reading and you will have a hard
time putting it down. I only hope that it will open believer's eyes to the need of so many hurting people all around
us, and that we will respond in the enabling grace of Christ who lives in us."
British singer and advocate of peace and justice Garth Hewitt (www.amostrust.org) said, "Jeremy Reynalds has walked
beside the homeless for so many years - this book gives a glimpse of his story and an insight into the changed lives
he has seen and it is a challenge to society to look into the face of homelessness and do something."
Reynalds said, "There appear to be an ever increasing number of homeless people in Albuquerque. It’s a tragedy that
some people pass the homeless in the streets, turn the other way or write them off. The homeless have apparently
become a nameless and faceless embarrassment to those who judge them without taking the time to find out why they are
homeless. In this book I have tried to give a face to the faceless by the power of words. I hope the stories speak as
powerfully to readers as they did to me."
